The Quincy Gems (10-4) refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against the Hannibal Cavemen (5-9), recording an 18-4 victory on Friday at Quincy Stadium.
The game was decided quickly as the Quincy Gems exerted their will early with 11 runs in the first three innings.
A two-run double by Deion Thompson, a two-run single by Dean Nevarez, a two-run triple by Jack Holden, and a sacrifice fly by Houston Looser in the first inning and an RBI double by Thompson, an RBI triple by Nevarez, an RBI double by Holden, and an RBI single by Looser during the second inning helped the Quincy Gems put some runs on the board early.Holden racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Quincy Gems.
Sam Huser's six strikeouts were enough to push the Quincy Gems past the Hannibal Cavemen. Huser allowed one earned run, six hits and one walk over seven innings.
Collin Luty paced the Hannibal Cavemen at the plate. Luty went 2-3 and scored one run. He singled in the third and eighth innings.
Lake Genard (0-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed 11 runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out none.
The Quincy Gems hammered the Hannibal Cavemen pitching as seven hitters had a field day, combining for 15 hits, 16 RBIs and 17 runs scored.
