The Lake Erie Monarchs get key pinch-hit in 5-4 victory over the Lorain County Ironmen

Michael Stafford was cold coming off the bench, but Stafford warmed up quickly as Stafford stroked a key pinch-hit single in the nine to lead the Lake Erie Monarchs (16-24) to a 5-4 win over the Lorain County Ironmen (16-24) on Friday at The Pipeyard.

With Stafford came to the plate and singled.

The Lake Erie Monarchs' Matt Ross was perfect at the dish, going 3-3. He singled in the second, fifth, and sixth innings.

Chris Modrzynski allowed two earned runs, five hits and one walk while striking out five over six innings of work.

Carlos Flores had a hot bat for the Lorain County Ironmen. Flores went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the third innings and doubled in the sixth inning.

Caleb Smith recorded his third win of the year for the Lake Erie Monarchs. He allowed one run over two innings. Smith struck out two, walked one and gave up two hits.

Milo Sklar was charged with his fifth loss of the year. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed one run.
