Early boost from Loera helps the Columbia Basin get past the Big Bend, 9-4

The Columbia Basin (25-9) built an early lead against the Big Bend (21-9), scoring five runs in the first inning, en route to a 9-4 win on Wednesday at BBCC Baseball Field .

The Columbia Basin scored in the first on a groundout by Drew Loera, a two-run single by Zack Chamberlain, an RBI single by Brendan McClary, and an RBI single by McClary.

Isaiah Hatch paced the Columbia Basin at the plate. Hatch went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the fifth inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

The Columbia Basin relied on Tanner Simpson to eat up innings en route to the win. Simpson pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks while striking out five.

Sam Glowicki racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Big Bend. He homered in the sixth inning.

Tyler Winkler (2-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked two and struck out none.
