Herrera hits and pitches the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs to 6-3 victory

Anthony Herrera carried the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (28-18) to a 6-3 victory over the Utica Brewers on Sunday at Veterans Memorial Park with a strong game at the plate and on the rubber.

It was a good day at the plate for the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs' Herrera. Herrera went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the third inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Herrera brought the heat against the Utica Brewers (18-28) during his outing. Herrera held the Utica Brewers hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out none.

The Utica Brewers jumped out to an early lead, but they were unable to hang on. The Utica Brewers led until the sixth inning, but the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs took the lead back on a solo home run by Sam Machonis.

Mason McClellan was hot from the plate for the Utica Brewers. McClellan went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the second inning.

Ryan OConnor improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered one hit.

Chase Cleary was charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked none and struck out three.
