A great effort by Brian Portelli carried the Southern Illinois Miners (26-15) to a 12-6 win over the Gateway Grizzlies (13-27) on Thursday at GCS Ballpark.
Portelli rocked the Gateway Grizzlies with two home runs. Portelli went 2-4 in the game with five RBIs and two runs scored. Portelli homered in the sixth and eighth innings.
The Southern Illinois Miners turned the win into a rout with four runs in the eighth.
Rick Teasley got his fifth win for the Southern Illinois Miners despite allowing five runs over six innings. Teasley struck out three, walked three and gave up 12 hits.
Max Schonfeld (2-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked three and struck out two.
