The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs get key pinch-hit in 7-2 victory over the Elmira Pioneers

Thomas Walraven was cold coming off the bench, but Walraven warmed up quickly as Walraven stroked a key pinch-hit single in the three to lead the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (18-15) to a 7-2 win over the Elmira Pioneers (23-12) on Monday at Veterans Memorial Park.

With the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs trailing by two, Walraven came to the plate and singled, plating Colin Hawk.

The Elmira Pioneers had the lead early, but couldn't hold off the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. The Elmira Pioneers were up until the fourth inning, but the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs had other plans for the final outcome, taking the lead back on an RBI single by Hawk.

Hawk got on base four times in the game for the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. He singled in the fourth inning.

The Elmira Pioneers couldn't get anything going so long as Anthony Herrera was on the hill. Herrera held the Elmira Pioneers hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

Adam Ashenfarb improved to 2-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. He allowed two runs over six innings. Ashenfarb struck out six, walked four and gave up five hits.

Jared Proctor (1-4) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just six innings, walked six, struck out three, and allowed four runs.
