The Vienna River Dogs (17-11) built an early lead against the Herndon Braves (13-15), scoring three runs in the first inning, en route to a 5-1 win on Sunday at James Madison High School.

The Vienna River Dogs scored in the first on an RBI single by Nathaniel Lowe, an error, and a groundout by Tyler Tharp.

Kevin Lachance had a hot bat for the Vienna River Dogs. Lachance went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first, second, and fifth innings.

Mark Gunst struck out six hitters en route to the the Vienna River Dogs win. Gunst allowed one earned run, three hits and eight walks over 5 2/3 innings.

Steven Schwartz (1-1) took the loss for the Herndon Braves. He lasted just three innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed three runs.
