Marcus Failing hopes every outing could go as well as Monday, as Failing struck out eight batters to carry the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs (13-12) to a 10-1 victory over the Newark Pilots (10-15) at Colburn Park.

The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs' bats came to life in the first inning. The Newark Pilots had no answer as the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs scored six runs. The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs scored in the first on a groundout by Sam Machonis, a double by JD Osborne, an RBI double by Osborne, and a three-run home run by Troy Scocca.

Colin Hawk was hot from the plate for the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. Hawk went 3-5 and scored three runs. He singled in the first, second, and ninth innings.

Daniel Imbro (0-1) took the loss for the Newark Pilots. He allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked none and struck out one.
