An exceptional effort by Justin Vernia carried the Tacoma (20-8) to a 7-2 win over the Pierce on Saturday.
Vernia struck out 10, paving the way for a the Tacoma win. Vernia allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks over nine innings.
Jake Vieth led the Tacoma's offensive threat, as he got on base four times in the game. He also drove in two runners. He singled in the fourth and ninth innings.
Despite the loss, the Pierce (12-15)'s Colten Barnes dominated the Tacoma's batters, giving up three runs and striking out seven.
Barnes was charged with his fourth loss of the year.
