The Southern Illinois Miners (59-29) beat the Traverse City Beach Bums (52-34) 6-2 on Friday at Rent One Park | Marion, IL behind Jerrud Sabourin, who went 2-4.

He doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the eighth inning.

The Traverse City Beach Bums had no answer for Shane Street, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Street held the Traverse City Beach Bums hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Jose Vargas was solid at the plate for the Traverse City Beach Bums. Vargas went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the fourth, sixth, and eighth innings.

Michael Shreves pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs, four hits and two walks while striking out none.

Evan Mott improved to 3-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Southern Illinois Miners. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered one hit.

Alan Oaks couldn't get it done on the hill for the Traverse City Beach Bums, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked two, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
