The Lake Erie Crushers get on top of the Southern Illinois Miners early but can't hang on in 3-2 loss

The Lake Erie Crushers (31-41) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 3-2 to the Southern Illinois Miners (48-25) on Tuesday.

While the Lake Erie Crushers led until the ninth inning, the Southern Illinois Miners worked their way back and took the lead on an RBI single by Brian Portelli.

The Lake Erie Crushers had no answer for Ryan Brockett, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Lake Erie Crushers managed just one hit off of the the Southern Illinois Miners' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his 3 2/3 innings of work.

Hunter Adkins was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Southern Illinois Miners batters and allowing zero runs.

Evan Mott got the win, running his season record to 1-1. Mott struck out one, walked none and gave up one hit.

Trevor Longfellow (5-6) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out none, and allowed one run.
