The Joliet Slammers (3-4) beat the Gateway Grizzlies (2-5) 7-3 on Friday at Silver Cross Field behind Russell Moldenhauer, who went 2-4.
He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the eighth inning.The Gateway Grizzlies had no answer for Navery Moore, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Moore held the Gateway Grizzlies hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Blake Brown did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Gateway Grizzlies, reaching base four times. He also drove in one runner. He singled in the first and third innings.
Sam Moore improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Joliet Slammers. Moore struck out none, walked one and gave up no hits.
Tyler Thompson was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just seven innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
