The Champion City Kings (16-21) beat the Richmond RiverRats (13-25) 7-2 on Wednesday at McBride Stadium behind Lee Sponseller, who had two extra base hits.

Evan DeCovich allowed one earned run, five hits and no walks while striking out three over five innings of work.

Joe Pourier pitched six innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and four walks while striking out four.

Daryn Lewis improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Champion City Kings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered no hits.

Cory Renois was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed three runs.

Eric Peterson, Sponseller and Matthew Priebe helped lead the Champion City Kings. They combined for six hits and seven RBIs.
