Joe Balfour hopes every outing could go as well as Saturday, as Balfour threw a shutout to carry the Mt. Hood (22-9) to a 9-0 victory over the SW Oregon (11-19) at Mt. Hood .
Balfour kept contact to a minimum, striking out 10 the SW Oregon batters. The Mt. Hood's pitcher gave up just five hits over nine shutout innings.
Six runs in the opening three innings allowed the Mt. Hood to easily put away the SW Oregon. , a sacrifice fly by Taylor Travess, an RBI single by Nick Gawley, a double by Louis Wolf, and during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Mt. Hood.
Isaac Benard had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the third and fifth innings.
Shane Doke couldn't get it done on the hill for the SW Oregon, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in two innings, walked five and struck out one.
Jay Rogers, Benard and Wolf helped lead the Mt. Hood. They combined for six hits and four RBIs.
