Clayten Ayres was cold coming off the bench, but Ayres warmed up quickly as Ayres stroked a key pinch-hit single in the seven to lead the Walla Walla (8-5) to a 3-2 win over the Shoreline (8-5) on Saturday at Warrior Field .
With the Walla Walla leading by one in the seventh inning, Ayres came to the plate and singled.
Ayres racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Walla Walla.
Jake Simmons had an impressive outing against the Shoreline's lineup. The Shoreline managed just one hit off of the the Walla Walla's pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his four innings of work.
Henry McAree was effective even in defeat, mowing down nine the Walla Walla batters and allowing one run.
McAree ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year.
