Eros Modena had two extra base hits, sparking the Swift Current Indians (1-0) to a 6-1 victory over the Weyburn Beavers (0-1) on Friday at Mitchell Field.

He homered in the third inning, singled in the fourth inning, and doubled in the sixth inning.

Steve Thompson struck out 10 hitters en route to the the Swift Current Indians win. Thompson allowed one earned run, seven hits and four walks over nine innings.

Manny Perdomo couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Weyburn Beavers, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in seven innings, walked one and struck out five.

The Swift Current Indians' Eric Sams, Modena, Matt Spillman and Taylor Steen combined for eight hits and four RBIs.
