Marquis Riley went 2-4 and hit a home run, helping the Joliet Slammers (10-13) to a 4-3 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums (11-12) on Wednesday at Silver Cross Field.
He homered in the first inning and singled in the third inning.The Traverse City Beach Bums had no answer for Jordan Wellander, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Traverse City Beach Bums managed just one hit off of Wellander, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his two innings of work.
Taylor Wrenn was hot from the plate for the Traverse City Beach Bums. Wrenn went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the first inning and singled in the fourth and seventh innings.
Brett Zawacki improved to 2-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Joliet Slammers. He struck out two, walked one and surrendered no hits.
Will Rankin (0-1) took the loss for the Traverse City Beach Bums. He lasted just one inning, walked two, struck out none, and allowed one run.
