An outstanding effort by Sean Thompson spurred the Alexandria Aces (15-11) to a 5-2 win over the Bethesda Big Train (20-5) on Monday at Frank Mann Field.
Thompson struck out 11, paving the way for a the Alexandria Aces win. Thompson allowed two earned runs, three hits and one walk over nine innings.
The Bethesda Big Train jumped out to an early lead, but they were unable to hang on. The Bethesda Big Train were ahead until the sixth inning, but the Alexandria Aces would not be denied the win, taking the lead back on a two-run double by Alec Humphreys.
Josh Swirchak boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace the Alexandria Aces. He singled in the second and fourth innings and doubled in the eighth inning.
Jake Valdez (2-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 5 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed four runs.
