The Vienna River Dogs (4-4) jumped out to an early lead on the Herndon Braves (4-4) and captured a 12-3 victory on Wednesday at James Madison High School.

Eight runs in the first three innings allowed the Vienna River Dogs to put the game away early.

A groundout by Ty Kobylinski, a fielder's choice, and a groundout by Garett Driscoll in the first inning helped the Vienna River Dogs put some runs on the board early.

Sergent racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Vienna River Dogs. He singled in the third inning and homered in the fourth inning.

The Herndon Braves had no answer for Jonathan Kelley, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Kelley held the Herndon Braves hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

Taylor Boyd did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Herndon Braves, reaching base three times. He singled in the third and eighth innings.

William Thompson got the win, running his season record to 2-1. He allowed two runs over four innings. He struck out five, walked three and surrendered two hits.

Andrew Culp ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked six and struck out two.
