The Ballantyne Smokies (20-10) and the Statesville Owls (16-15) both had scoring chances on Tuesday, but it was the Ballantyne Smokies that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out a 3-2 win at Statesville Owls Home Field.
The Ballantyne Smokies' Dan Stoltzfus was perfect at the dish, going 2-2. He singled in the second and fifth innings.
The Statesville Owls had no answer for Ben Taylor, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Statesville Owls managed just one hit off of the the Ballantyne Smokies' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out six during his two innings of work.
Nicholas Rodriguez did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Statesville Owls, reaching base three times. He singled in the first and fifth innings.
