The Pineville Pioneers (11-13) and the Lake Norman Copperheads (13-13) each put runners in scoring position on Saturday, but the Pineville Pioneers capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 6-4 win at Hopewell HS.

Andy Austin racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Pineville Pioneers. He singled in the first inning and homered in the seventh inning.

Jordan Newsome baffled the Lake Norman Copperheads, striking out six batters. The Pineville Pioneers' pitcher tossed three innings of shutout ball and allowed only three hits.

A bright spot for the Lake Norman Copperheads in the defeat was Michael Strem, who allowed only two runs while striking out six.

Dallas Connor got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed two runs over three innings. He struck out four, walked three and surrendered two hits.

Justin Evans (2-1) took the loss for the Lake Norman Copperheads. He lasted just two innings, walked four, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
