Yermin Mercedes hit two home runs to carry the White Sands Pupfish (28-33) to a 14-5 win over the Taos Blizzard (22-41) at Taos Tundra.

Eight runs in the opening three innings allowed the White Sands Pupfish to easily put away the Taos Blizzard. A groundout by Fernando Frias, a two-run home run by Mercedes, and a two-run double by Mike Branda during the first inning and a two-run double by Boon Maeda and an RBI double by Mercedes in the second inning supplied the early offense for the White Sands Pupfish.

Mathew Cook's 12 strikeouts helped the White Sands Pupfish to the victory. Cook allowed three earned runs on six hits and one walk over seven innings.

Steve Taft had a busy day at the plate, collecting three extra-base hits. He singled in the fifth innings, doubled in the first and seventh innings, and homered in the ninth inning.

Enoch Deaton ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed 12 runs in five innings, walked five and struck out six.

The White Sands Pupfish's Maeda, Branda, Mercedes and J JCostantino combined for 11 hits and 12 RBIs.
