Wednesday was a great day for Jose Velez, as Velez struck out 16 batters to carry the Evansville Otters (51-34) to a 9-2 victory over the Windy City ThunderBolts (31-57) at Bosse Field in seven innings.
Five runs in the first three innings helped the Evansville Otters blow out the Windy City ThunderBolts. A wild pitch, , and a two-run single by Jeremy Nowak during the first inning and a sacrifice fly by J.R. Higley and an RBI single by Shayne Houck in the second inning fueled the Evansville Otters' offense early.
Chris Elder racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Evansville Otters. He singled in the first inning and homered in the fourth inning.
Josh Spence ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his tenth loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in five innings, walked two and struck out three.
