Jose Vargas went 1-2, helping the Traverse City Beach Bums (34-49) to a 5-2 victory over the Evansville Otters (48-32) on Wednesday at Wuerfel Park.

Alex Phillips struck out seven hitters en route to the the Traverse City Beach Bums win. Phillips allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings.

J.R. Higley had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the second inning and tripled in the fourth inning.

The Traverse City Beach Bums couldn't get anything going so long as Cody Boutte was on the hill. Boutte held the Traverse City Beach Bums hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.

Trevor Walch was charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just four innings, walked three, struck out seven, and allowed five runs.
