The Southern Illinois Miners (38-25) beat the Florence Freedom (25-36) 6-5 on Tuesday at Rent One Park, Marion, IL behind Aaron Gates, who went 1-3 and hit a home run.

The Florence Freedom were led by Rob Kelly's hitting. Kelly went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first and fourth innings.

James Woods got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered no hits.

Jorge Marban ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked three, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
