A five-run explosion in the ninth inning carried the River City Rascals (35-21) to a 9-1 win over the Rockford Aviators at Aviator Stadium on Tuesday.
The River City Rascals scored in the ninth on an error, a two-run single by Evan Crawford, and a two-run home run by Brian McConkey.
McConkey had two extra-base hits for the River City Rascals.
Bryce Shafer pitched lights out for the River City Rascals. Shafer held the Rockford Aviators (25-31) hitless over 3 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Kyle Brueggemann ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fifth loss of the year. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out four, and allowed four runs.
The River City Rascals were sparked by Steve Carrillo and McConkey, who teamed up for five hits and two RBIs.
