The Joliet Slammers (18-29) failed to take advantage of Marquis Riley's effort at the plate on Thursday, losing 7-6 to the Normal CornBelters (25-22) at The Corn Crib.
Riley rocked the Normal CornBelters with two home runs. Riley went 4-5 in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored. Riley homered in the first and seventh innings.
It was a good day at the plate for the Normal CornBelters' Mike Schwartz. Schwartz went 3-5, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the third and seventh innings and doubled in the ninth inning.
Despite the loss, the Joliet Slammers' Kody McFarland dominated the Normal CornBelters' batters, giving up two runs and striking out eight.
Charley Short recorded his fifth win of the year for the Normal CornBelters. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered one hit.
Sam Moore couldn't get it done on the mound for the Joliet Slammers, taking a loss. He lasted just zero innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.
