The Washington Wild Things make the most of 8 hits in 5-4 victory over the Joliet Slammers

The Washington Wild Things (18-8) and the Joliet Slammers (11-15) each put runners in scoring position on Saturday, but the Washington Wild Things capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 5-4 win at CONSOL Energy Park.

Zac Fuesser pitched lights out for the Washington Wild Things. The Joliet Slammers managed just one hit off of Fuesser, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out three during his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Grant DeBruin racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Joliet Slammers. He homered in the first inning and singled in the fifth and seventh innings.

Matt Purnell got the win, running his season record to 2-1. He allowed one run over two innings. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered two hits.

Santo Manzanillo (0-2) took the loss for the Joliet Slammers. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
