The South Bay Storm (20-16) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 5-1 ballgame against the Top Speed Baseball (37-6) on Saturday at St. Marys College.
A two-run single by Matt Owen gave the Top Speed Baseball the lead in the fourth inning.
Owen did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Top Speed Baseball, reaching base three times. He also drove in two runners. He singled in the fourth inning.
Michael Slifer baffled the South Bay Storm, striking out seven batters. Slifer allowed one earned run, four hits and no walks over 4 2/3 innings.
Patrick McKnight was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Top Speed Baseball batters and allowing two runs.
Kyle Fimbrez improved to 3-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Top Speed Baseball. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered one hit.
McKnight (2-5) was the game's losing pitcher.
