The Richmond RiverRats (19-29) jumped on the Springfield Sliders (11-38) early on their way to a 6-2 win on Friday at McBride Stadium, scoring three runs in the first inning.

The Richmond RiverRats scored in the first on an RBI single by Brendon Neel, an RBI single by Neel, and a sacrifice fly by Brendan Flood.

Joe Schrimpf was hot from the plate for the Richmond RiverRats. Schrimpf went 3-5, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first and fourth innings and doubled in the eighth inning.

Bowie Matteson got the win for the Richmond RiverRats thanks to six strikeouts. Matteson allowed two earned runs, three hits and one walk over seven innings.

Chance Simpson (1-6) took the loss for the Springfield Sliders. He lasted just six innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
