Justin Vernia hopes every outing could go as well as Saturday, as Vernia pitched eight shutout innings to carry the Tacoma (29-1) to a 7-0 victory over the Centralia (8-20) at Wheeler Field.
The Tacoma blew out the Centralia thanks to seven hits, including zero extra base hits. The Tacoma scored two runs in the eighth on a hit by pitch and a groundout by Matthew Hirsch.
Brett Nielsen racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Tacoma. He singled in the first and fifth innings.
Jake Conover was charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just seven innings, walked two, struck out 10, and allowed five runs.
