A great effort by Ryan Schmitten carried the Pierce (19-10) to a 1-0 win in seven innings over the Lower Columbia on Sunday at Mt Tahoma High School .
Schmitten held the Lower Columbia (24-11) scoreless during his seven innings of work. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on four hits while ringing up eight.
It was a good day at the plate for the Pierce's Jarred Prather. Prather went 1-2, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fifth inning.
Despite the loss, the Lower Columbia's Hunter Wells dominated the Pierce's batters, giving up one run and striking out six.
Wells was charged with his first loss of the year.
