An ace performance by Ryan Perez lifted the West Virginia Miners (1-0) to a 1-0 win over the Chillicothe Paints on Tuesday at VA Memorial Stadium.
Perez kept the Chillicothe Paints (0-1) off the board during his eight innings of work. Perez struck out seven and allowed five walks and two hits.
Pat Kregeloh was solid at the plate for the West Virginia Miners. Kregeloh went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning.
Steve Laudicina was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the West Virginia Miners batters and allowing one run.
Laudicina (0-1) took the loss for the Chillicothe Paints.
