Tim Smith brought home the winning run to give the Winnipeg Goldeyes (9-2) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes hung on to beat the Laredo Lemurs (10-1) 4-1 on Monday.
Josh Mazzola singled to get on base in the sixth. He then went from first to second on a single by Casey Haerther.Mazzola got a hit in each of his three at bats. He singled in the third, sixth, and eighth innings.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes relied on Matthew Rusch to eat up innings en route to the win. Rusch pitched six innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and two walks while striking out two.
David Newmann ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 5 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out five, and allowed four runs.
