The Texas Marshals (2-4) were never able to get over the hump and get over their troubles against the Victoria Generals (5-1) on Wednesday, as the Texas Marshals fell 6-4 at Riverside Stadium after falling behind by four runs in the second inning.
The Texas Marshals scored on a two-run triple by Zachery Marberry in the fourth inning, an error in the fifth inning, and an RBI triple by William Breland in the sixth inning. Despite their efforts, the Texas Marshals couldn't get over the hump.
Romeo Cortina got a hit in each of his four at bats. He doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the second, third, and seventh innings.
The Texas Marshals had no answer for David Paiz Jr., who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Paiz Jr. held the Texas Marshals hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Matt McClain got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out seven, walked three and surrendered five hits.
Doug Ashby (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked one and struck out five.
