Kyle Kempf was cold coming off the bench, but Kempf warmed up quickly as Kempf stroked a key pinch-hit single in the seven to lead the Terre Haute Rex (31-28) to a 5-2 win over the Springfield Sliders (10-47) on Sunday at Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stad.
With the score tied at two in the seventh inning, Kempf came to the plate and singled.
Evan Heptig did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Terre Haute Rex, reaching base three times. He scored two runs and had two RBIs. He singled in the eighth inning.
The Springfield Sliders couldn't get anything going so long as Trevor Haas was on the hill. Haas held the Springfield Sliders hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.
Josh Dove improved to 3-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Terre Haute Rex. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered two hits.
Jaren Drummond (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just three innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
