Thomas Richards hit two home runs to carry the Quincy Gems (28-16) to an 8-2 win over the Hannibal Cavemen (20-22) at Quincy Stadium.
Richards racked up six RBIs on three hits for the Quincy Gems. He singled in the fifth inning and homered in the first and sixth innings.
The Quincy Gems blew out the Hannibal Cavemen thanks to 10 hits, including zero extra base hits. A home run by Richards helped the Quincy Gems score four runs in the sixth. The Quincy Gems had two hits in the inning.
The Quincy Gems relied on Jake Powers to eat up innings en route to the win. Powers allowed one earned run, three hits and one walk while striking out six over eight innings of work.
Josh Tols ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in five innings, walked four and struck out five.
