A walk-off single from Caleb Howell brought home the winning run for the Quincy Gems (16-6) in a 4-3 victory over the Terre Haute Rex (14-10) at Quincy Stadium on Tuesday.
Howell was solid at the plate for the Quincy Gems. Howell went 2-5, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the third and ninth innings.
The Terre Haute Rex couldn't get anything going so long as Brady Arenson was on the hill. The Terre Haute Rex managed just two hits off of Arenson, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out five during his four innings of work.
Will Colantono reached base three times in the game for the Terre Haute Rex. He singled in the fifth and seventh innings.
Austin Tribby got the win, running his season record to 3-1. Tribby struck out one, walked one and gave up no hits.
Ben Mahar was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.
