The Lake Erie Monarchs get on top of the Cincinnati Steam early but can't hang on in 7-6 loss

The Lake Erie Monarchs (5-12) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 7-6 ballgame against the Cincinnati Steam (10-8) on Saturday at Western Hills HS.

An error gave the Cincinnati Steam the lead in the seventh inning.

Matt Williams paced the Cincinnati Steam at the plate. Williams went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the seventh inning.

Jared Kujawa was solid at the plate for the Lake Erie Monarchs. Kujawa went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the sixth inning.

Brian Thene recorded his first win of the year for the Cincinnati Steam. Thene struck out none, walked none and gave up three hits.

Jack Anderson was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
