The Alameda Merchants (2-0) and the Tri-Valley Bercovich (3-1) passed the lead back and forth five times on Thursday at Granada High School, but in the end the Alameda Merchants pulled out a 10-5 win over the Tri-Valley Bercovich.
Jordan Grubbs got on base three times in the game for the Alameda Merchants. He scored three runs and had one RBI. He homered in the first inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Joel Deporte brought the heat against the Tri-Valley Bercovich during his outing. The Tri-Valley Bercovich managed just one hit off of Deporte, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his 2 2/3 innings of work.
Connor Martin had two extra-base hits for the Tri-Valley Bercovich. He tripled in the first inning and doubled in the ninth inning.
Jesse Schumacher improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Alameda Merchants. He allowed four runs over six innings. Schumacher struck out five, walked two and gave up seven hits.
Ryan Foley couldn't get it done on the mound for the Tri-Valley Bercovich, taking a loss. He lasted just five innings, walked five, struck out seven, and allowed five runs.
