The Joliet Slammers (13-20) jumped on the Gateway Grizzlies (21-11) early on their way to a 7-3 win on Sunday at Silver Cross Field, scoring four runs in the first inning.
Kolin Conner racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Joliet Slammers. He singled in the second inning and homered in the fifth inning.
The Gateway Grizzlies couldn't get anything going so long as Justin Erasmus was on the hill. Erasmus held the Gateway Grizzlies hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.
Brett Zawacki got the win, running his season record to 2-3. He allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings. Zawacki struck out three, walked three and gave up nine hits.
Gregg Downing (2-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked six and struck out four.
