The Normal CornBelters make the most of 9 hits in 6-5 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies

The Normal CornBelters (17-10) and the Gateway Grizzlies (18-8) each put runners in scoring position on Sunday, but the Normal CornBelters capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 6-5 win at GCS Ballpark.

The Normal CornBelters held off the Gateway Grizzlies, as the Gateway Grizzlies were unable to overcome a five-run second inning deficit.

The Gateway Grizzlies scored on a sacrifice fly by Antone DeJesus in the second inning, a solo home run by Jonathan Johnson in the third inning, a solo home run by Jose Flores in the fifth inning, and a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Jon Myers in the seventh inning. Unfortunately, the Gateway Grizzlies weren't able to take the lead back.

Patrick McKenna racked up four RBIs on three hits for the Normal CornBelters. He homered in the second inning and singled in the first and fourth innings.

Ross Davis improved to 2-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Normal CornBelters. He allowed three runs over four innings. He struck out two, walked three and surrendered seven hits.

JaVaun West (4-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out none.
