The Washington Wild Things survive the Normal CornBelters 7-2 thanks to Nunziato's late-game heroics

AJ Nunziato drove in the go-ahead run to give the Washington Wild Things (14-8) the lead in the seventh inning, as the Washington Wild Things hung on to beat the Normal CornBelters (15-8) 7-2 on Wednesday.

After Jim Vahalik singled, Nunziato came to the plate with the score tied at one, and doubled, plating Vahalik.

Stewart Ijames had two extra-base hits for the Washington Wild Things. He tripled in the second inning and homered in the fifth inning.

Anthony Collazo handled the Normal CornBelters' lineup with ease, racking up five strikeouts. The Washington Wild Things' pitcher gave up just five hits over five shutout innings.

Shawn Blackwell recorded his second win of the year for the Washington Wild Things. He allowed one run over one inning. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered one hit.

Ryan Demmin was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
