The Southern Illinois Miners get on top of the Normal CornBelters early but can't hang on in 4-3 loss

The Southern Illinois Miners (26-20) built an early edge on Sunday, but the Normal CornBelters (25-21) roared back to steal a 4-3 victory at The Corn Crib.

While the Southern Illinois Miners led until the ninth inning, the Normal CornBelters worked their way back and took the lead on an RBI single by Santiago Chirino.

Keoni Manago was solid at the plate for the Normal CornBelters. Manago went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the seventh inning and doubled in the ninth inning.

The Southern Illinois Miners had no answer for Alan Oaks, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Oaks held the Southern Illinois Miners hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Reese McGraw (0-1) took the loss for the Southern Illinois Miners. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.
