The Joliet Slammers hang on against the Gateway Grizzlies, 3-2

Story by Narrative Science.

The Gateway Grizzlies (9-7) were never able to get over the hump and get over their troubles against the Joliet Slammers (7-10) on Wednesday, as the Gateway Grizzlies fell 3-2 at GCS Ballpark after falling behind by two runs in the sixth inning.

The Gateway Grizzlies scored one run in the sixth on a solo home run by Chris McClendon. Still, the Gateway Grizzlies couldn't draw even.

The Joliet Slammers were led by Javan Williams's hitting. Williams went 3-4 and drove in one. He singled in the first, second, and seventh innings.

The Joliet Slammers relied on Corey Kimes to eat up innings en route to the win. Kimes allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks while striking out four over seven innings of work.

Tim Brown ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just seven innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed three runs.
