Tom's big day not enough as the Sherrill Silversmiths fall to the Syracuse Salt Cats, 11-6

The Sherrill Silversmiths (0-3) failed to take advantage of Blaze Tom's effort at the plate on Wednesday, losing 11-6 to the Syracuse Salt Cats (2-0) at Noyes Park.

Tom rocked the Syracuse Salt Cats with two home runs. Tom went 2-2 in the game with two RBIs and four runs scored. Tom homered in the second and fourth innings.

Tyler Kirwan had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the fifth and seventh innings.

The Syracuse Salt Cats had no answer for Tom DeBernardis, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Syracuse Salt Cats managed just one hit off of the the Sherrill Silversmiths' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Michael Rynerson improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Syracuse Salt Cats. He allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered five hits.

Kevin Carpentier couldn't get it done on the mound for the Sherrill Silversmiths, taking a loss. He allowed nine runs in four innings, walked three and struck out two.

The Syracuse Salt Cats were sparked by Cristian Fiorito and Carlos Guzman, who teamed up for seven hits and six RBIs.
