Wednesday was a great day for Shane Barley, as he hit two home runs to carry the Wellsville Nitros (2-0) to a 13-2 victory over the Olean Oilers (0-2) at Wellsville Central.
The Wellsville Nitros blew out the Olean Oilers thanks to 15 hits, including zero extra base hits. The Wellsville Nitros scored six runs in the fourth on a three-run home run by Scott De Jong, a solo home run by Barley, and a three-run home run by Barley.
The Olean Oilers had no answer for Ismael Velez, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Velez held the Olean Oilers hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out four.
Dalton Scarborough ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in three innings, walked none and struck out two.
