Red Dowdell went 2-3, helping the Vienna River Dogs (7-8) to a 6-5 victory over the Southern Maryland Nationals (9-6) on Wednesday at James Madison High School.

Denis Mikush looked sharp on the mound. Mikush held the Southern Maryland Nationals hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

Austin Poretz was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the Vienna River Dogs batters and allowing two runs.

Austin Guy was hot from the plate for the Southern Maryland Nationals. Guy went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the second and third innings.

Zack Wiseman ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed one run.
