Four first-inning runs helped the Wareham Gatemen (1-0) to a 5-3 win over the Cotuit Kettleers (0-1) at Spillane Field on Saturday.
The Wareham Gatemen held off the Cotuit Kettleers, as the Cotuit Kettleers were unable to overcome a four-run first inning deficit.
The Cotuit Kettleers scored on a groundout by Zach Maggard in the sixth inning, an error in the eighth inning, and an RBI single by Kevin Patterson in the ninth inning. Despite their efforts, the Cotuit Kettleers couldn't get over the hump.
Ryan Pineda was hot from the plate for the Wareham Gatemen. Pineda went 3-4 and scored one run. He singled in the first, third, and seventh innings.
Eric Pfisterer pitched lights out for the Wareham Gatemen. Pfisterer held the Cotuit Kettleers hitless over five innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out 10.
Eric Nesseth was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
