The Brewster Whitecaps (1-0) trailed by two in the ninth, but the Brewster Whitecaps recovered thanks to a key error in the ninth inning from Davy Wright to pull out a 10-8 win over the Orleans Firebirds (0-2) at Eldredge Park on Saturday.

With the score tied at eight in the ninth inning, reached on an error, scoring Stephen Yarrow.

Wright got on base three times in the game for the Brewster Whitecaps. He also drove in one runner. He doubled in the second inning.

Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 18 runs and 23 hits, including zero extra base hits. There were 10 pitchers used in the game as the two managers searched for any way to finish it off.

Tim Ferguson had two extra-base hits for the Brewster Whitecaps. He homered in the first inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the ninth inning.

The Orleans Firebirds had no answer for Michael Panozzo, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Panozzo held the Orleans Firebirds hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four.

Ferguson, Bobby Coyle and Mark Canha helped lead the Brewster Whitecaps. They combined for eight hits and four RBIs.

Xavier Esquivel took the loss for the Orleans Firebirds. He lasted just one inning, walked two, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
